Connect Pro Tools to the Hub (for VR)

This page covers connecting Pro Tools with ControlRoom Hub.

ControlRoom Hub is a lightweight easy-to-use Mac/PC application that runs on your DAW computer. You can use the Hub to configure your ControlRoom settings and map MIDI controls for your DAW. The Hub is the middleman between your VR headset and your DAW, facilitating all the necessary two-way communication over your local wifi network.

The ControlRoom VR Console works as a HUI control surface in Pro Tools. Follow the steps below to configure the HUI connection to Pro Tools.

Detailed Setup Instructions

Make sure you have completed the steps in Setting Up VR.

  1. In the Hub, navigate to the Settings menu by clicking the gear icon.

  2. In the DAW dropdown, select Pro Tools.

  3. Open the DAW subpage, and in the Tracks dropdown, select the number of tracks (8 or 16) you’d like your VR Console to display from your Pro Tools sessions.

  4. Ensure that “Use Virtual Ports” is turned on.

  5. Configure your ports for HUI connection 1

    1. In Port set to ControlRoom In 1

    2. Out Port set to ControlRoom Out 1

  6. If you have selected 16 tracks instead of 8, you will see fields for Connection 2.

    1. In Port set to ControlRoom In 2

    2. Out Port set to ControlRoom Out 2

The Console is limited to 8 tracks in the Quest version of ControlRoom

BUG: Follow the section below if you have duplicate Virtual Midi Ports on your PC. We are currently working to fix this bug.

  1. After doing Step 5 above, disable the duplicate ports in the MIDI Input Enable window.

2. Go to your device manager, find the duplicate MIDI ports under the sound, video, and game controller section, and disable the duplicate ports.

3. Restart your computer if required.

  1. Launch Pro Tools

  2. Open the MIDI Input Enable window and confirm ControlRoom Out 1, 2, and 3 are turned on.

  3. Open the Peripherals window and navigate to the MIDI Controllers Tab.

  4. Create one or two HUI Devices, depending on whether you want your VR console to have 8 or 16 faders. (Quest version of ControlRoom is limited to 8 tracks only) Make sure the first device is using ControlRoom In 1 and Out 1. If you are creating two HUI Devices, make sure the 2nd one is using ControlRoom In 2 and Out 2.

Now that both the Hub and Pro Tools are configured, you are ready to Connect.

If you aren’t there already, navigate to the DAW subpage within Settings (gear icon), and click Connect.

You should see the DAW connection indicator light turn green. If not, review previous steps to ensure your settings are correct.
